Superfood trends come and go - but it looks like moringa might be the new wellness additive that's here to stay.

Just like most trendy "new" superfoods, the health benefits of the moringa tree have been known in various cultures for hundreds of years, but have just recently found their way into mainstream wellness culture - where you are about to see a lot more of it. According to Google Trends, interest in moringa has been growing steadily for the past five years.

What is Moringa

The Moringa oleifera tree is a small tree that is native to India and Sri Lanka  but that grows in many parts of the world. The entire tree is considered edible and it is known for its long twisted pods, from which it derives its name. “Murungai” means “twisted pod” in the Tamil language.

There are 14 varieties  of Moringa. The one which grow in northern part of Sri Lanka is the smallest version of the tree, which is the rare and most valuable type among them. The leaves are considered the most nutritious part and are most often used in supplements.

When it comes to inflammation, there aren’t  holistic solution like turmeric. The active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, is a powerful antioxidant and is used to treat issues from acne to gut-imbalances and even as a supplement to cancer protocols. But, there’s a new kid on the anti-inflammatory block that hails from Sri Lanka and it’s rumoured to be even more powerful than turmeric.
